Brakettes Swing Their Way Past NY Swag Red

June 28, 2014 - The Stratford Brakettes completed a sweep of the New York Swag on Saturday night, blanking the Red team, 3-0 and 13-0. In the first game, the Brakettes broke a scoreless tie with a two-out, three-run rally in the fifth. Stratford smashed three homers in the nightcap to fuel the five-inning rout.

Brandice Balschmiter led the way in the early contest, striking out 11 and giving up just three hits.

Swag starter Rachel Gillen held the Brakettes at bay until the fifth, when Bri Chiusano bunted her way on. Britt Lampert also reached with a bunt single, and Chiusano raced to third when the throw to first was offline.

Denise Denis followed with a standup double to left-center, scoring both base runners for a 2-0 lead. Elise Fortier then singled to plate Denis, closing out the fifth with a 3-0 margin.

Balschmiter had more than enough support to work with, as she recorded three strikeouts in the seventh inning to seal the deal. . She improved to 7-0 with the victory.

Gillen struck out seven Brakettes in a strong effort, striking out the 1-2-3 batters in order in the third.

Lindsey Montemarano, Mary O'Reilly and Alexia Faulkner had the hits for the Swag.

Allyson Fournier struck out nine Swag batters in the late game, while giving up just two hits. She improved to 10-0 on the season with the decision.

Denise Denis got the Brakettes on the board early, crushing her seventh homer of the year to put Stratford up, 2-0.

Lampert also scored on the long ball, after reaching with an infield single. Lampert went 4-for-4 in the game and scored three times.

Bri Chiusano hit her first home run as a Brakette with a two-run shot in the second. The blast put the Brakettes up 5-0.

Elise Fortier hit her fourth grand slam of 2014 in the third to open up a 12-0 lead. It was her team-leading 10th homer of the season.

The Brakettes improved to 19-0 with the win.

The Brakettes will take on the CT Xplosion on Sunday night with a twinbill at 6:00 at DeLuca Hall of Fame Field.
