Brakettes Finish Weekend with Another Sweep

June 29, 2014 - The Stratford Brakettes used strong outings by Tatum Buckley and Allyson Fournier, plus six home runs from five different players, to sweep a doubleheader from the CT Xplosion 23U on Sunday night at DeLuca Field.

Buckley struck out nine in a five-inning outing in the opener, while allowing just three singles on the night. She improved to 3-0 on the season with the decision.

Xplosion starter Patti Sciglimpaglia struck out four Brakettes, but gave up eight runs on eight hits in five innings. She also contributed an infield single for one of the three Xplosion safeties.

Mary Sciglimpaglia, Patti's twin sister, had the other two hits for the Xplosion.

After Stratford scored two in the first inning, Amber Radomski smacked her third homer of the year in the second frame to put the Brakettes up, 3-0.

Bri Chiusano left the Xplosion on the field in the fifth with a game-ending, two-run shot, her second of the 2014 campaign. The blast brought the score to 8-0 and induced the run rule.

Allyson Fournier recorded all outs in game two via the strikeout, as she fanned nine batters in a contest shortened to three innings due to the run rule. The Brakettes tacked on six runs in the first and 15 in the second to capture the nightcap, 21-0.

Jess Mouse hit her first home run of the season in the late game, a three-run shot in the first, which pushed the Brakettes' lead to 4-0.

Mariel Schlaefer hit a two-run homer later in the first, then added a solo shot in the second inning, giving her six on the year.

Buckley also hit her second homer of 2014, a grand slam in the second inning. She had six RBI's in the second game.

The Brakettes will return to action on Thursday night, July 3rd, with a 7:00 doubleheader at DeLuca Field against the Stratford Breakers 23U.
